Lewis Hamilton dismissed suggestions that after only two races he lost confidence in the new team Ferrari as a “complete garbage”.
The seven-time world champion had a mixed start of life with Scuderia and won the sprint in China before both Ferrari cars were disqualified by the main race.
Hamilton’s ice skating block under his car was violated by half a millimeter, while team -mate Charles Leclerc’s car was assessed as underweight.
The 40-year-old only took the 10th place in his debut in Australia, but Hamilton dropped an indication of doubts in his new team.
“I asked something if I lost trust in the team that is completely garbage. I have absolutely 100 percent confidence in this team,” said Hamilton before the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend.
“At the beginning of the year there was a lot of hype whether people expected that we would win from the first race in our first year or win the championship in our first year – that was not my expectation.
“I move into a new culture, a new team and it will take some time. I have observed in the past two months how the team works.
“Last week I was able to make notes and indications of what we can improve.”
Ferrari came into the new season, which was expected that she would fight for the driver and designers’ championship as well as for the designers, but she left a rocky start to the campaign with only 17 points of two races.
Hamilton had a number of tests with racing engineer Riccardo Adami, including the exchange of places with Leclerc in China.
The British driver says he still needs time to get used to his new car.
“We definitely have a lot of work to do to ensure that it is better forward,” added Hamilton.
“I still learn from this car, I have not yet tested every object you have.
“I didn’t frustrate myself after (China) or something that is what it is. We went through everything in the factory.
“Many knowledge, we take the ups and downs together as a team.
“The most impressive is how the team took it, how the data worked through to see how we progress from here.”
