After archaeologists from the University of Zadar noticed strange structures in front of the west coast of Korčula, they decided.
However, they knew little what they would come across, and the team ultimately discovered a 7,000 -year -old street that was hidden at the foot of the Mediterranean sea.
Regarding why it is there, it is assumed that the old street, which was once connected to Korčula with a now submergen neolithic place, which once around 4,900 BC. Was at home.
And it was not a small street that they discovered. The Expressway extends 13 feet wide, which is larger than the average road that you would find in Great Britain these days (which is about 12 feet for a single track).
The archaeologist Mate Parica from the University of Zadar led the search and after seeing satellite pictures of the website, he wanted to take a closer look at it.
Parica entered into with colleagues, where they came across the fascinating walls of an old settlement.
It seemed to be connected to the main island by a narrow country strip.
“Archaeological studies of the archaeological underwater of the sub -diving Neolithic site of Soline on the island of Korčula found archaeologists who surprised them,” said the University of Zadar in a Facebook declaration.
“Under the layers of the sea sludge, they discovered a street that combined the sunken prehistoric settlement of the Hvar culture with the coast of the island of Korčula.”
It continued: “These are carefully complex stone slabs that were part of a four-meter-wide communication that connected the artificially created island with the coast. With the help of the radio float analysis of the radio float analysis found in the last campaign, the entire settlement comes to around 4,900 years BC.
Parica said Reuters in 2021 when the road was kept as well when they made the discovery for the first time: “In contrast to most of the Mediterranean, this area is safe from large waves, as many islands protect the coast.
At first there were questions when the road was naturally formed, but Parica and his team found objects that signaled that it was made by humans.
“We found some ceramic objects and flint knives,” said Parica after daily galaxy.
While the street was found in 2021, it was only officially confirmed as one in 2023, with the discovery at this time becoming global news.
