Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter both came out of a set to book their places in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open.
Norrie, who won the title in Indian Wells in 2021, defeated the 23rd Seed Jiri Lehecka 3-6 6-4 7-5.
Dominant services delivered precious openings in the first two sentences, with Lehecka claiming the only break in the opener.
Norrie used his first break to the level and saved a number of pause points before using his chance to seal a place in the last 32.
He will compete with the 10th seed Tommy Paul, who sent his American with American Tristan Boyer 6-3 6-1.
In the women’s draw, the 25th Seed Boulter set the Irina-Camelia Begu 6-7 6-3 6-0 from Romania.
Both players included a break for the surcharge in the opening set and confiscated the initiative in order to win the draw for the loss of only two points.
But Boulter played her first game since Australia because of a foot injury, struck again and provided the victory in the decisive set.
The British number one will compete against the seventh seed Elena Rybakina after the former Wimbledon champion Suzan Lamens defeated 6: 3.
Number two IGA Swiadek only took 61 minutes to defeat the French Caroline Garcia 6-2 with 6-0, while the fourth seed Jessica Pegula left Magda Linette 6-4 6-2.
The top seed of the men, Alexander Zverev, admitted that he played “terribly” after he had lost 4-6 7-6 7-6 against the Dutchman Tallon Tallon Griekspoor.
Griekspoor needed six match points before ending the victory in more than three hours.
The fourth seed Casper Ruud also went out and lost 7-6 3-6 6: 2 against American Marcos Giron.
The eighth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild with 6: 2 6: 4, to achieve a collision with the former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini, a 6-2 winner with 7: 6 against the Australian Chris O’Connell, while the 12th Saatgut Holger Rune Corentin Mouted.
