The former midfielder of Blackburn Rovers, Richie Smallwood, will leave Bradford City this summer after the club offers a new contract against him.
The captain of Bantams played a crucial role in obtaining promotion from the second division. Graham Alexander’s team finished third and scored the clinching goal in the 96th minute on the last day of the season.

In her list, which was released three weeks ago, Bradford confirmed that Smallwood was part of a series of players who remained in discussions with outstanding terms.
However, it was announced that Smallwood will leave. The former Rovers man spent a total of three years at Valley Parade.

Smallwood published a farewell message on social media, in which he confirmed that it was Bradford’s decision to continue.
“My time in Bradford City is coming to an end,” he wrote on X.
“My contract will take place shortly and the club has made the decision not to offer an extension. I would like to thank the fans sincerely for the unshakable support that they showed me and my family during my time. I wish you nothing as a success.

“Football is a temporary industry that comes and go, but the memories we create can take a lifetime.”
“Three years ago, I made the decision to leave the championship and to connect Bradford City in the second division,” he added.
“The goal was clear: promotion. It took longer than expected, but together we achieved our goal as a team.
“In every single game I gave 100 percent for the club and for the supporters. We summarized the ups and downs and reached our collective ambition.
“I was lucky enough to win with Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers, Hull City and now, Bradford City, doctorate.

“This means so much because of the journey we made and how we did it.”
Smallwood left Rovers in 2020 to join Hull City, where he became the Bantams before the end. He also took Rotherham United and did four on his resume.
