Fashion is not directed for women like me. So I look fabulous at every party

Fashion is not directed for women like me. So I look fabulous at every party

I have a unique position in the fashion industry: I am both insiders and outsiders.

In the last ten years of my career I was anchored in fashion – sitting in the front row in fashion shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris, discussing and dissecting trends, interviewed designers, models and celebrity faces of brands. I went to red carpets, worked in the holy halls of shiny magazines and traveled to the name of fashion into distant corners of the world.

And in all these career moments I thought: “I have nothing to wear.” Not in a kind of “I’m so boring from my wardrobe”, more in the way: “Although I am inaugurated with the inner gears of the gears in this industry, there is still hardly anything to nothing that can dress my body with plus size with a sense of style.”

Because the truth is, fashion is not directed or for him for women like me.

As long as I have worked in fashion, the average clothing size – Great Britain size 16 – has remained the same. However, the options for something above this size are still limited, and if we speak honestly about it, these limited options are quite garbage.

There are a few truths that need to be buried here about why; Why does fashion overlook such a large percentage of women?

Fashion claims that it wants to pronounce a more diverse body spectrum, but this is rarely carried out

Fashion claims that it wants to make a more diverse spectrum of body

First, so much inclination and representation in this industry is not a walk. Again and again I have seen brands that claim to dress more diverse body shapes, but what they don’t want to say loudly is that this only refers to the “right” body shape. The execution of this claim is often realized through a piece of tailor -made clothing for a celebrity in the sample, and you go on the back with a knock on your back to be included.

The next is the most superior excuse in the book: there is no appetite for an extended size. It is too much risk for brands to create sizes above a Great Britain 16, but is not financially profitable.

And the last one is a brutal truth that no brand wants to say loudly, but it doesn’t need a genius to read between the lines: they just don’t want bodies that look like mine in their clothes.

“Fashion is not directed for people like me” – but Billie Bhatia is determined to change that

As someone who is in the extended spectrum of size (and my wardrobe regularly looks at a feeling of disappointment), let me tell you that there is an appetite. This is the reason why accessories are the largest sellers for designer brands and are not ready. Why I have news every day who ask me where women can buy women for occasions and exactly why I worked with insiders’ favorite clothing brand Rixo in a 16-part collection.

Rixo was founded by the friends Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey and is an independent Womenswear brand that has changed the industry, changed wardrobes and has changed the way women feel like their body. The cornerstone of the brand is clothes, especially clothes for occasion. From the wedding to work clothes, the bride to the birthday there is no opportunity that the abundance of beautiful dresses inspired by vintage does not work.

The cornerstone of the Rixo brand is clothes and the new Billie Bhatia collection is no exception

I loved the designs, loved the inspiration, loved the founders. But like so many other brands with which I interacted as an editor every day, I loved them in the distance because they were not made for me. The size, even though they are better than many other brands that share the same market corner, did not deal with my Great Britain size 24 – but I was used to it, so I simply accepted my fate that this would be a love relationship from a distance.

Apart from that, instead of keeping me with empty promises in the distance, Rixo took a hand out and brought me on board to work together at a collection because they were as worthy of my body, my existence and experience in this world as in smaller bodies.

Summer in the city: Billie says her goal is to convey a sense of freedom of style to the wearer

The heart of Rixo X Billie Bhatia is a sense of freedom of style. A spilling of the grumpy, poorly considered clothing that has populated the Plus-Size market for so long and an invitation to feel good. I wanted to create dresses that would serve a community of women who had previously been ignored. I wanted everyone who was ever afraid to get an invitation to an opportunity to be happy that they Finally Had something to wear. I wanted to create pieces that breathed life, excitement and possibilities during the holidays while transporting them through the summer in the city.

For years I have accepted my fate as someone who will never open my wardrobe and be excited about what I could go into the world. This collection feels groundbreaking for bodies like mine to enjoy fashion, dress and enjoy a feeling of occasions.

There are only a few things more exciting than a wedding invitation to observe how one of her best friends marries the love of her life, or a party that you know that she is spoken for years or prepares for a large milestone, whatever that could look like.

“For years I accepted my fate as someone who will never open my wardrobe and be excited,” says Billie

For me, this thrill often disappeared shortly after I realized that I had to search high and low to wear something – and often not even something good, just something I could work with. The way I dealt with the event dressing was anything but the clothes: hair, make-up, accessories, jewelry. I dedicated my time to curate these elements of my appearance. namely to distract what was missing: the dress.

“The clothes speak,” says Billie

With the collection I can put fashion in the foreground and it feels almost as exciting as the invitation itself. The clothes speak with large voluminous sleeves, swaths of fabric and frills to create movement and drama that are happy and uncomplicated to the style.

These are dresses that like a Sartorial serotonin, a collection that moves through the world on every occasion and involves life because the clothing effortlessly takes care of everything else.

Over the years I have curated a small black book with Pit stops, which despite not always for my size for their spacious silhouettes and their sense of style.
