The former Google CEO Eric Schmidt took over the top job during an ambitious start -up startup.
Schmidt, who led Google from 2001 to 2011, was appointed CEO of relativity space, a California company that builds a rocket to compete with SpaceX and other important actors in the starting industry.
According to the New York Times, which broke the story on Monday (March 10), Schmidt, who has a value of around 33 billion US dollars worth around 33 billion US dollars, also made “significant” financial investments.
The relativity was founded in early 2016 by Tim Ellis and Jordan Noone, both of whom once worked for Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ Spaceflight Company. According to Spacenews, Schmidt takes over the CEO of Ellis, which remains on the board. (Nobody resigned from his role as relativity Space Chief Technology Officer in 2020.)

In 2017, the relativity area developed its first rocket, a relatively small 3D-printed vehicle called Terraner 1. The Expendable, two-stage Terraner 1, flew at the first and time in March 2023 and agreed to reach a number of milestones, but it failed to reach the orbit.
Shortly afterwards, the company retired to Terran 1 to concentrate on the larger, partially reusable Terraner R, which is expected to debut someday in 2026. This shift was not a big surprise. The relativity had emphasized that Terran 1 was a pathfinder for the more powerful Terraner R.
The Terraner R will contain a reusable first stage such as SpaceX ‘work horse Falcon 9. The two rockets have a similar buoyancy capacity. 26 tons (23.5 tons) to Low Earth ornate for the Terran R, compared to 25.1 tons (22.8 tons) for Falcon 9.
According to Relativity Space, it has already signed Terran R Start contracts worth more than 2.9 billion US dollars.

Like its competitor SpaceX, the relativity space dreams very large.
