Georgian Office Block on cheapside to be converted into 104 rooms City Hotel

A rare Georgian listed office office -Block on cheapside should be a new upscale boutique -hotel in the heart of the square mile.

The City Corporation has given the building permit for Atlas House at the intersection of the King Street, Queen Street and the cheapest in the latest hospitality for the finance district.

The 104 bedroom hotel is owned by the Blue Orchid Hospitality Group, part of the Integrity International Group, led by hotelier and developer Tony Matharu.

Atlas House was bought by integrity for 34.55 million GBP from US Group Hines in February last year.

The listed symbol of class II is one of the architecturally decorated office blocks that are still in the city, and a rare example of a surviving prevention building in the square mile.

It was built in 1836 in the Italian style in 92 cheapside and 1 King Street for the Atlas Assurance Company, which had occupied the property for 130 years. It is one of the relatively few prevention buildings that are still in the city.

The characteristics of the building designed by Thomas Hopper include an unmistakable watch and sculpture of Atlas, which are equipped over the large entrance, the faience tiles, the mahogany tiling, a mosaic floor and stairs with iron balustrades.

The ground floor is made of gray granite, while the upper floors are Portland Stone. The building was repaired and restored in the 1950s after suffering bomb damage in lightning.

The ARGYLL Club’s serving office operator cleared the 44,200 square meter office in 2024.

Hines bought the office and then had Barclays Bank for her Pan-European Core Fund for £ 35 million in 2013.

Blue Orchid also has the Wellington Hotel based in Westminster and the Tower Suites based in the city.
