New York (AP) – The moon seems to take out the sun during a partial solar eclipse in the northern hemisphere this weekend – but protect your eyes.
The solar eclipse will be visible in Europe, West Africa, East North America and North Asia on Saturday. The sun will shrink the most for the northeastern United States, Greenland and Ostkanada.
During a partial solar eclipse, the moon goes between the sun and earth. The moon throws a shadow on the earth and only partially blocks the sun and makes it appear like a crescent moon. In contrast to a total solar eclipse, there is no entirety, so experts say that proper eye protection has to be worn all the time.
“There are only one light and shadow that is played by the sun, moon and earth,” said Auriane, no matter how the planetarium in Montreal.
According to NASA, the sun and lunar eclipses occur between four and seven times a year. Due to the inclined orbit of the moon around the earth, they tend to come in pairs: a total lunar eclipse turned the moon in mid -March.
To see the solar eclipse, look at the astronomy website to see when it starts near you. The spectacle is slaughtered during most America, in the late morning for Western Europe and Africa and in the afternoon for Eastern Europe and North Asia.
During the solar eclipse, the sun slowly becomes a crescent moon when the moon seems to cover it and the day may become dimmer.
“It will feel like a particularly cloudy day,” said Juan Carlos Muñoz-Mateos with the European southern observatory.
Check the weather conditions before you go outside. Clear sky away from high buildings and lights of the city are best, especially in America, where the sun rises during the solar eclipse.
Grab the Eclipse glasses in advance to secure the sight through a local science museum or to order online from a seller on the American Astronomical Society.
The spectators can also enjoy the spectacle indirectly, e.g. B. by making a Pinhole projector with household materials. Hiding a colander creates a similar effect. If you look on the floor under a shady tree, you can give crescent shadows when the sunlight filters through branches and leaves.
Another mandatory eclipse and a partial solar eclipse will return in September with the best solar eclipse in Antarctic and New Zealand.
