Greece against Scotland live
Scotland sees herself before the struggle for the status of her league, while looking for a two-legged play-off against Greece. Back-to-back victories against Croatia and then Poland means that Steve Clarkes team avoided the immediate descent into league B, but the Greeks will prove a strict test before attention to qualification for the 2026 World Cup can turn.
Greece won five of her six league B games, including an away win against England, and scored goals under head coach Ivan Jovanovic. You now have the doctorate when you face the Scots for the first time since 1995.
The first leg is held in the Olympic Stadium in Athens, and Scotland will be without the young wing player Ben Doak, although Che Adams and Lewis Ferguson are back in fold. For the first time, George Hirst will give an opportunity with experienced couple Scott Mctominay and John McGinn. Follow the game below with our dedicated match blog.

I think this evening could be quite difficult for Scotland. It is a new year and one that brings with it the beginning of the qualification of the World Cup, but the dynamics are everything into the game with Greece and they have a terrifying home record.
The draw will still be in balance before the second leg on Sunday, and I think Scotland will not be too dissatisfied with a one-goal deficit.
To win Greece 2: 1.
Steve Clarke about George Hirst

“George is someone we have had in mind for a few months. I’ve seen him recently. He is a player who would help give us more depth of this position.”

Scotland gave George Hirst a first mission after successfully changing the loyalities from England, which he presented at the youth level.
It is to be hoped that he will be the answer to Scotland’s striker, although this evening may not be thrown. Instead, Che Adams is back in the fold and could get the nod.
The midfield duo John McGinn and Scott McTominay will continue to begin, with Lewis Ferguson got into a fight again after a serious knee injury.
