The NASA Astronaut Nichole Ayers gave Takuya Onishi, her Jaxa crewmate, a haircut on board the international space station on April 13, 2025 | Credit: Jaxa/Takuya Onishi

What is that?

A month after his second stay on board the international space station, expedition 73 Commander Takuya Onishi received a haircut from his crew member Nichole Ayers.

Onishi informed this photo on social media and commented on how this haircut of a NASA astronauts differs from his experience with a Russian cosmonaut during his first stay at the ward in 2016.

Where is it?

The provisional hairdressing station of Ayers is located in Node 2 “Harmony”, the hub on board the international space station.

There are three of the four crew stations in harmony between Onishi and Ayers and the open hatch (the fourth is located in the “floor” when the photo is aligned).

Why is it incredible?

Apart from the fact that you have to have a broom nearby to sweep the cuttings, the hair that is cut off during a cladding is not a big problem. In space, however, this hair could swim away and clash on or behind devices. As can be seen here, the solution is a vacuum at hand to quickly soak up the cuttings before they can float away.

On the positive side you do not have to K.
