by Chris Eubank Jr. explained that he had “confirmed the family name” after defeating the bitter rival Conor Benn in front of his once aligned father Chris Eubank SR in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In a struggle that cooks in family history and three decades after the violent rivalry of her fathers had conquered the British boxing for the first time, Euban Jr. set up with a unanimous decision, whereby all three judges achieved the 116-112 competition.
Hours earlier, the crowd became wild when the Euban SR made a surprising entrance and shared an emotional greeting with his son, with the couple apparently long away and the Euban SR criticized this fight.
“A lot, it was something special,” said Eupenbank Jr.
“He had to be here. All of this is due to what he did – and we did it again. I am happy to have this man with me.
“I confirmed the family name, as we said we wanted, so he is on and up.”
He continued: “The fact that our fathers did what they did all these years ago brings a different soul and a different spirit – and we both showed that tonight.”
The 35-year-old did not take part in his press conference after the fight after being taken to the checks to the hospital, but before he went, he paid Benn’s unexpected resistance in the ring.
“Everything was surprising, I didn’t know that he had what he had in him,” said Eub bank Jr. “I thought I would break him early. I underestimated him.
“I didn’t train for such a fight – he never showed it, but on the other hand he never had to show it. He had to show it tonight, and I too.”
In the meantime, Benn had been destroyed after he had suffered the first loss of his professional career and admitted that the defeat was difficult to take.
“It’s hard to swallow,” said Benn to a press conference. “I didn’t get in the fight when I thought it was so close, I couldn’t get lost, I came in to win and I wasn’t good enough and I have to do it better.”
He continued: “I want revenge, I want my revenge.
“I think inactivity played a major role. I think it brought me back. I had injured Euban several times, but I couldn’t get the goal and the next time I will make sure that the finish is there.”
