The first west end store of Ikea will open on Thursday, May 1st, at one of the most busy locations in Central London in the Oxford Circus, the Swedish retailer confirmed today.
The start of the business in the 214 Oxford Street follows a long overhaul that was delayed by water and entered the basement of the former Topshop flagship of class II.
The Flat-Pack Furniture and HomeWares group bought the site in 2022 for £ 378 million as a house for a new generation of smaller format city center.
The shop will include three floors of the seven-story landmark building with the floor and two lower floor soil with a total trading area of 5,800 m² as its hammersmith outlet. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and generates 150 new jobs.
The Hus of Frakta Pop-Up Concept Store next door, in which Ikeas celebrates characteristic blue bags, is closed on March 23, 2025.
Ikea said his new business would “offer the traditional Ikea experience: a showroom with inspiration and room sets, a market hall with affordable accessories for furnishings, planning dates and a Swedish deli.”
It will be around 3,500 product lines for immediate take away in stock. Available for ordering with another 2,500. Larger furniture can be ordered for delivery at home, click and collect or for the collection outside the website.
Ikea UK, Peter Jelkeby, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer said: “Whether a local Londoner or a tourist through the Ikea Oxford Street, who should inspire for all home dreams – and are beautifully designed, functional furniture for as many people as possible and make visitors affordable with ideas and solutions that make everyday life a bit better.
The opening of the business follows a three -year renovation, which included complex work to improve environmental performance and at the same time maintain the listed cultural heritage characteristics of the building.
In addition to the IKEA business, the building will accommodate three other retail stores and offer four floors of office space. Last week, NK Cosmetics dealer Space NK confirmed that it takes room for a flagship in the same building.
Ingka Investment, the investment arm of the parent company and the owner of the building of Ikea UK, said that he had replaced gas-fired boilers with energy-efficient air source heat pumps, installed secondary glazing for improved insulation, cleaned and restored the historical facade of the building.
The original Victorian roof lantern on the 4th floor was restored and protected with a new cover. The Heritage Lift -Slobbys of the building that serve the office bodies have also been restored.
