Injury hit socceroos ring changes for crunch world championship qualification

The Australian coach Tony Popovic was forced to satisfy the changes for their qualification games of the World Cup (Mazen Mahdi).

The Australian coach Tony Popovic called the changes on Friday for the qualifications of the Crunch World Championship from Socceroos. He called six unkempt players and turned to two others who have not seen international actions since 2022.

The Socceroos sit in the Asian qualification group C behind the out of control of Japan on seven points with four games.

The other four teams in the group have all six points, which makes the conflict against Indonesia in Sydney next week and a subsequent game in China of crucial importance.

You have to be completed by the first two of the group to ensure your place at the 2026 World Cup in North America or possibly confront another qualification round.

The hand of Popovic was forced to a certain extent by injuries with the regular guests Harry Suttar, Riley McGree and Jordy Bos from the Riley McGree among five players in his last squad.

Among the new faces are the Hibernian defender Nectarios Triantis and the trio Alex Grant, Ryan Teague and Kai Tewin, based in Australia.

Popovic also remembered Jason Davidson, a member of her Asian Cup side of 2015, and directly back Fran Karacic, who was part of her 2022 World Cup squad.

There has been no part of the Socceroos setup for three years.

“We understand the importance of these upcoming games and look forward to further consolidating our position in the automatic qualification positions of the group,” said Popovic.

“I look forward to seeing the players and bringing the squad together on the field to prepare for a great occasion in the Sydney Football Stadium.”
