Anna McGann claimed a hat trick when Ireland Italy thrown aside 54-12 in Parma to achieve a long-awaited victory in the women of women.
The Irish celebrated on the street in the tournament in 2021 and competed against France in the opening round, but put together a good all-round performance when they ran eight attempts in the Sergio Lanfranchi stad.
McGann crossed twice in the first half and ended things with another late score in the last moments, while then O’Brien hit seven conversions in a flawless kick display.
Italy was against the off, Valeria Fedrighi sent the sin tank in the first few minutes after a high duel, and Aoife Dalton was the first to take advantage of it.
McGann followed with her first two attempts, and Amae-Leigh Costigan also sneaked through, while Sofia Stefan added the consolation for Italy in a half-time number of 28: 5.
The second row of Ireland, Linda Djougang, let the scoreboard moved again in the second half when they anchored another converted attempt, then it was then planned for head contact yellow.
Dorothy Wall and Brittany Hogan came up when Ireland stacked the points, and although Beatrice Rigoni converted her own attempt to reduce the residues, McGann sealed things with her third shot to the line.
