by A series of earthquakes, including a tremor of 6.2, is beaten near Istanbul in Turkey. At least 151 people were injured. The epicenter of the quake was that along the coast by the sea of Marmara, where more than 50 aftershocks were recorded.
While the infrastructure remains unaffected, some inhabitants decided to spend the night outside of further tremors. Istanbul, a popular tourist destination, is 20 kilometers away from the north anatolian fault line and is therefore susceptible to natural disasters. And the cities in the south of Türkiye were destroyed by two huge earthquakes in 2023, which killed more than 55,000 people.
As a result, the foreign office has updated its advice on the trip to Turkey, about a month after a wave of political demonstrations across the country.
Here is everything you need to know whether it has to travel to Turkey safely.
Is it certain to visit Istanbul?
It is currently certain to visit Istanbul, although aftershock may still be possible. Turkey is often subject to earthquakes and it is advisable to take into account the willingness of their accommodation before traveling.
Regardless of this, demonstrations and protests continue to take place all over the city. The FCDO warns that “the police’s reaction includes the use of tear gas and water cannons”. Tourists should monitor local news and avoid masses if possible.
Is it certain to visit Antalya and Bodrum?
There were protests in Antalya and Bodrum, although these took place in urban areas and there is no indication that popular beach resorts are affected. Package holidays go to Turkey as usual.
What does the FCDO say?
The foreign office has updated its Turkish travel tip in view of the earthquakes. The warning says: “In many parts of Türkiye, earthquakes and tremors regularly suffer. This can be a high size, damage the infrastructure and enter into life.”
The FCDO says that tourists should advise local authorities, tour operators and accommodation providers. “
The relevant government side has also been changed to reflect the current wave of demonstration.
The FCDO says: “Demonstrations and protests are currently taking place in Istanbul and in other cities in Turkey. Demonstrations can become violent.”
With regard to terrorism, the foreign office warns: “Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Turkey” and very much warns that there have been several attacks, including the use of knives, firearms and explosives. The FCDO warns that attacks could take place in environments that are often visited by foreigners such as airports or important venues.

Is Turkey involved in the conflict in the Middle East?
Turkey is not involved in the current conflict in the Middle East with Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and Iran. In Turkey, however, there were political demonstrations in relation to the tensions of the Middle East.

Are flights still running to Turkey?
Yes. There is no indication that the recent demonstrations have influenced flights or airports throughout Türkiye.
What if I want to cancel my vacation?
If you have booked a parcel vacation to Turkey and want to cancel your trip for some reason, contact your tour operator and you may offer flexibility with alternative data.
However, note that there is no guarantee that you will not receive a refund because the Federal Foreign Office has not given any formal advice against the trip to Turkey, and you cannot be able to withdraw money with your travel insurance company.
If you have booked flights and accommodations independently of each other and want to cancel your vacation, contact your travel providers as soon as possible to determine whether you can reorganize your plans. However, note that due to the circumstances, it is unlikely that you will receive a complete refund.
