Mexico -Stadt (AP) -The number of monarch butterflies that hibernate in the mountains west of Mexico city recovered this year and doubled the area that they treated in 2024 despite the stress of climate change, experts said on Thursday.
The annual number of butterfly does not calculate the individual number of butterflies, but the number of hectares that you cover when you gather on trees in the mountain pine and in the forests of the mountain pine and firs. Monarchs from the Rocky Mountains east of the USA and Canada hibernate there.
The Mexico Commission for National Protection Area (Conanp) said that butterflies coordinated 4.4 hectares (1.79 hectares) this year compared to only 2.2 hectares (0.9 hectares). The number of last year made a decrease of 59% compared to 2023, the second lowest level since the beginning of the record authority.

Gloria Tavera Alonso, General Director for Nature Conservation Mexican agency, said the improved figures that are due to better climatic factors and humidity. The drought along the groove of the butterflies was listed as a factor for the decline of last year.
Tavera also estimated the continuous efforts to increase the number of plants on which the butterflies on their airstrasse are dependent on a living and reproduction.
