China took a new step in its long -term planning for moon research with the completion of a “simulated moon space” area.

The researchers have set up a practice area in a Vulkanlava cave in a forest region near the Jingbo Lake in Mudanjiang City in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang. The movement is a reaction to investigations that indicate that lava watch systems are available on the moon and Mars and the hard radiation environments of these worlds could shield.

“The underground volcano-lava pipes on Lake Jingbo are the most similar surroundings on earth as the underground space of the moon. I hope that our future-oriented research can serve China Lunar Exploration program,” said Li Jiaqi, researcher at Beijing University, to China Central Television (CCTV).

Experimental robots are already used to test autonomous exploration and multifunctional operations in the simulated moon environment.

“Compared to traditional moon vehicles and exploration robots, it has stronger environmental adaptability and flexibility,” said Li Xianglong, doctoral student of the Harbin Institute of Technology. “When researching the underground space of the moon for the future, he can have a more precise perception, decision -making and business capability.”

The students also set up seismometers in the region in order to serve as a reference for future lunar attempts. China’s Chang’e 7 mission to the Moon South Pole, which is due to start at some point in 2026, will wear a seismograph to examine the interior of the moon and recognize moon quakes caused by tidal forces from the earth, and temperature changes that influence the surface of the moon. China plans to build an international moon research station (ILRS) in the 2030s.
