Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi in the induced coma after an urgent abdominal surgery

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi was put in an induced coma to support his recovery from urgent abdominal operation.

The Nigeria International was subjected to a procedure on Monday evening after suffering a serious injury with Leicester during the 2-2 draw on Sunday.

There is no indication that the condition of the 27-year-old is life-threatening and the news agency PA understands that the coma will help restrict its movement and regulate its heart rate.

Awoniyi collided with a post against the foxes and received a few minutes of treatment before he was allowed to return to the campaign.

The extent of his injury was announced by the club’s medical staff on Monday and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Forest said on Tuesday afternoon that he “recovered well”.

The Midlands Club also said that the seriousness of the Awoniyi violation confirms that the owner of Evangelo’s Marinakis stormed onto the field after the game and claimed that the talks about a confrontation with Nuno Espirito Santo was “fake news”.

Marinakis became constant after the game with head coach Nuno, with the Greek businessman Furious being allowed to continue his injured player.

In a club declaration it says: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that Taiwo Awoniyi, after urgent operation, is well recovered due to a serious abdominal injury that suffered a serious belly injury against Leicester City during the game on Sunday.

“In Nottingham Forest, this principle is not just a policy for us. It is the deep faith and conviction of our owner. On Evangelos Marinakis this is not just a football club – it is a family – and it gives us all this message.

“That is why he was so personal and emotionally invested in the situation that developed in the urban area on Sunday. His reaction was of deep care, responsibility and emotional investment in one of our own. At such moments, he demonstrates his leadership, not only through words, but also through action and presence.

“In the last 10 minutes of the game, when he clearly saw our player in discomfort and struggling with visible pain, it became increasingly difficult for him to stay on the side. His deep frustration about how our player lies with severe pain on the floor – something that nobody could ignore with real care.

“It was instinctive, human and reflected on how much this team and its people would mean for him. He would do the same thing again if such an unhappy event would ever appear again.”

Immediately after Marinaki’s’ examination of Nuno, he was suspended, with Pundit Gary Neville said that the manager should “negotiate his exit” that night.

But Forest struck back and added: “The truth of the matter is that there was no confrontation with Nuno or others on the field or in the stadium.

“There was only a common frustration between all of us that the medical team should never have continued to the player.

“In view of this, we ask former coaches and players and other public personalities of the game to oppose the urge to judge and judge online, especially if they do not have full facts and the entire context.

“The unfounded and poorly informed outrage for the purposes of personal traction on social media serves none of the most of the injured player.

“We ask these influential voices to show the same respect for the well -being of the players that they often ask for others. Let the concern come before the comment.”
