“Only hide if it is absolutely necessary”

“Only hide if it is absolutely necessary”

I was six years old when I “discovered” the make-up. My mother and I were in the house of my grandparents when I came across her youthful cosmetics case: Mary Quant Crayons, Coty Lippensticks, Elizabeth Arden-Lijatta. It triggered my obsession with color, make-up and its history.

Audrey Hepburn is my ultimate make-up muse and beauty icon. Her gamine style of Signature, Doe Eyed, has proven to be more popular and she was a beautiful person inside and outside.

Who inspired my career the most? Magic designer Mary Greenwell. Wide I was a visagist, I used my pocket money to buy Vogue. The photo shoots would say “make-up by Mary Greenwell”. I remember that I thought – I want to be Mary Greenwell!

One of the most memorable moments in my career was to shoot for Prada in East Berlin with Ridley Scott and his daughter Jordan. We were there for a week. East Berlin was still quite avant-garde-we had all Prada archives there and shot in the most amazing places. One of my lipsticks meet me in Berlin, I named this memory as a homage.

For me, make-up was increasingly than glittering surfaces … It is a significant of creativity and humanity. You have to know the past to understand the present, and as soon as you realize that the make-up that you wear in your handbag is crossed by hundreds of years to land in your hand, your understanding of beauty is revolutionized forever.

After working for so many other brands for years, I was excited to do things in my own way. I pour my heart into my Lisa Eldridge beauty products and I think it shows. I always strive to create unique colors that were described as “not tumptable”.

My make-up philosophy is about improving what you have and only hide where is absolutely necessary. I will apply a thin layer of my Lisa Eldridge Skin Enhancing Tint (£ 37, selffridges.com) and use my Pinpoint Concealer Micro correction pen (£ 27, spacekenk.com) to cover some reddening and to raise a shadow there. I close it with a “my-lip butter” lip with a back lip out of the treeum-embrace in Épanoui (£ 26, spacekenk.com). My mascara mascara from kitten in Burn Umber (£ 29, spacekenk.com) is a favorite and lifted, fanish eyelashes. makes me look more alert.

The insider beauty tip that everyone should know? Face massage! I learned from my mother how important it is and I just have to look at her to see the evidence of her beautifying advantages.

Make-up is a creative outlet that can give such a trust. I have seen how the most reserved people use a brown brown slick from red lipstick to combat what is ahead of us.

The collaboration with Isabella Rossellini for the 80th birthday party of Lancôme in Paris was a pinch-me moment. I was always inspired by her beauty and everything she stands for. Another worked with Dua Lipa for the Met Gala 2019. I love to experience the cyclical nature of the trends, but it is important to recognize your implementation. A heavy, hyper-fitted make-up look has dominated in recent years, and the recent revival of Grunge of the 90s and minimal appearance is a manifestation of our fatigue when trying to achieve this. Likewise, the Grunge make-up of the first round from the 1990s was a reaction to the excessive glamor and the complete make-up of the 1980s.

Am I a smell? Yes! When I lived in Los Angeles, I went to Violet Gray Store when he was opened for the first time and was particularly brave by Diana Vreeland Dufts, particularly brave (£ 195, e-skents.co.uk) with his iris, violet and leather notes. Another fragrance that makes me happy is Ulay’s oil, as was called before. But it is a bitter sweet memory – it leads me back to my grandma’s kitchen, where she kept a bottle in the office.

In my bathroom cabinet? The Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF50 (£ 38, ultraviolet.co.uk), which gives a nice light and smells amazingly. Lancôme UV expert Supra Screen SPF 50 Invisible UV -Serum (£ 41, lookfantastic.com), which I am currently using instead of moisturizing cream. Its invisible finish makes it an ideal basis for make-up. The reusable Dieux Forever Eye masks (£ 22, dieuxskin.com) and my skin -enhancing treatment cleaner (£ 43, spacekenk.com) – it is hardworking, multifunctional … I cannot be without them.

If I could make the make-up for someone in history, it would be Elizabeth Taylor. When I started, it was recommended to work with her for an AIDS Foundation Charity event. I was excited next to me, but unfortunately she was uncomfortable and couldn’t make the trip. Tragically, this was towards the end of her life. I will always feel soiled that I didn’t hit her that day.
