by The Roblox gaming platform has announced new security tools with which parents can block people from their child’s friend list and block individual experiences on the popular website.
The platform, which is very popular with younger players, also introduces insights that show the parents what games and experiences their children have spent most of their time.
Roblox said the update aimed at giving the parents greater flexibility in order to manage their children’s activities on the website.
The security features follow a number of important updates that were introduced last year to better enable parents to manage and monitor their children’s accounts. According to reports, the company’s security approach was criticized.
Matt Kaufman, Chief Safety Officer from Roblox, told the news agency PA that the platform “constantly improved the security systems on Roblox”, and the goal for the company was to create security features that could “adapt over time”.
“The updates this week are a continuation of the rather complete revision of the parental controls that we started in November last year,” he told PA.
“It reflects the fact that we constantly improve the security systems on Roblox. I think we made about 40 important improvements last year, and this will only continue until 2025.
“It is something you have to invest in all the time, and I am writing the perspective of the way Roblox works in the security room.
“I think you really set up an ethos for how we act as a company, and I think that’s something that distinguishes us.
“Now, if we think of Roblox for almost 20 years, it is really something that almost everyone thinks about Roblox and works on it – and there is a committed security team that is quite large here, and our task is to concentrate every day and constantly improve the system.
“We are striving for systems that are increasingly demanding and can adapt over time. I think that’s our effort. I think the person responsible is to understand that these systems take constant investments in time and technology.”
Roblox’s updates as online security, in particular that of children, are increasingly focused on pandemic and the additional time that children spend practically online learning and socialization, but when more aspects of everyday life are digitally focused.
Mr. Kaufman said the platform now heard from the parents, but he believed this not only because of the change in the settings for online security.
