by Rory McIlroy has admitted to being surprised by the extent of the reaction to his master triumph. Two US presidents – Donald Trump and Barack Obama – plus huge names of worlds outside of Sport have contacted the Nordirsmann since graduating “Career Grand Slam near Augusta National”. In the midst of moving scenes in Augusta, Mcilroy’s pouring out emotions far beyond the Golf. The performance meant McIlroy “everything and more”. It hit the chord elsewhere.
Mcilroy, who defeated Justin Rose in a playoff to win the green jacket, will return to this week on the Zurich Classic from New Orleans. He was in bed with a fever on Monday and was still slightly exhausted when he addressed the media at TPC Louisiana on Wednesday.

“It was a few amazing days to think about everything that happened and about the size of everything,” said Mcilroy. “I think the big one for me is how the whole trip with people and the people who turned me to me have found a kind of appeal. That was absolutely amazing. It is not every day that they can fulfill one of their lifelong goals and dreams. I just tried to enjoy everything that goes with it.
“I spoke to two presidents the day after what was pretty cool. Only people who went from all areas of life, be it sport, entertainment, culture. Only everything. People who wouldn’t even think would see Golf or know what’s going on; that was very, very, very humble.
“I think people can sometimes see themselves in fighting and everything they try to get the best out of themselves on this trip. Watching someone as it finally does, something that they have tried for a decade, I think it’s resonance.”
McIlroy spent time to Augusta in his house on the outskirts of London before visiting his parents in Northern Ireland. Remarkable private celebrations were spent with those who were closest to the five -time major winner. He is just the sixth golfer in the story that wins the Grand Slam. “To be honest, I couldn’t be professional and personal in a better place in my life,” said Mcilroy. “To celebrate with the people who were part of this whole for my entire career, my whole life was absolutely amazing.”
McIlroy and Shane Lowry are the defending champions at the Pairs event in New Orleans. Lowry grabbed Mcilroy in an euphoric moment when Rose was seen. The organizers of the tournament are clearly enthusiastic. McIlroy is here. Lowry had doubts that his partner would make the trip if a dramatic last Masters developed.
“I was finished on the 15th hole in Augusta so that I watched the ranking,” said Lowry. “I think he had just done with 13 doubles. I said to Darren [Reynolds, Lowry’s caddie]: “No matter what happens in the next couple of holes, I think we’ll do it well to bring him to New Orleans.” If things didn’t go in the way, I wouldn’t believe that he wanted to be here and I thought if things went in his way, he would want to be somewhere else. I am glad that he is here. I don’t say that we will be in the Bourbon Street every evening, but we are here to enjoy it. “
When Lowry was reflected over this 13th hole, in which McIlroy found water with his third water, the Masters champion visibly opened. “I’m excited to get out of there,” said McIlroy. “I think that’s the perfect atmosphere to do it.
“I think that is part of the reason why I wanted to honor the obligation to be here because it is a fun event to be out there with Shane. I also know that it is not everything on me. He also has to do something of work. Maybe many of them in the next two days.
“It is a perfect tournament that I can return to, only good positive vibes from last year. I don’t know if that gives me more self -confidence. I was always very confident in my skills as a golfer. All day on Sunday at Augusta I think that I can use the Golf -Golf round. That gives me confidence and I can always resort to this experience.”
McIlroy later cited the European storage of the Ryder Cup in Bethpage as the remaining goal for 2025 this year. It was confirmed that José María Olazábal, who defeated the victory in Medinah 13 years ago in Medinah as vice captain in Medinah.
