Smartphone bans alone do not give children a healthy technical relationship – academics

A group of international experts has argued that the ban on smartphone and social media access alone has no children for the healthy use of technology.

In the British Medical Journal (BMJ), the collection of academics was based on the fact that there were lack of evidence that general prohibitions helped children and such approaches were “stop-gap solutions”, which “contribute little to support the long-term inclusion of children and their successful transitional professions to digital rooms at school, at home and in other contexts Transition to the youth and adult of the world -filled world. ”

Instead, the experts demand a right -handed approach for technological use, in which children are better protected against age -appropriate design and education and at the same time use technology to develop skills to help them participate in the modern, digital world.

Victoria Goodyear from the Institute for Mental Health at the University of Birmingham and colleagues from Harvard, the University of Cambridge, the Swedish School for Sports and Health Sciences and the University of Sao Paulo said that governments and supervisory authorities should concentrate on the improvement of legislation to ensure that children with children and social media can safely be able to safely safern.

The intervention takes place when the debate continues whether mobile phones should be banned in schools in England.

On Wednesday, the chief inspector of Ofsted said that smartphones should be banned in schools in England, who pursued an exchange between Prime Minister Sir Keir Starrer and the conservative leader Kemi Badenoch on this topic during the questions of the Prime Minister.

Ms. Badenoch asked why the government spoke out against a tory change in well -being and the schools of the child ban to demand schools to ban the use of phones.

In response to this, the prime minister described the proposal as “completely unnecessary” because he claimed that “almost every school” already prohibited telephones, and instead the focus said on the content that children consumed.

The schools in England received in February last year as part of the former conservative government as part of the former conservative government, which should hire the use of mobile phones during the school day.

In their article, the experts said that a recent evaluation of the smartphone guidelines in England in England reported that restricted access to phones at school “was not associated with advantages for mental health and well -being of young people, the physical activity and sleep, the achievement of educational means or the behavior of the classroom”.

They added: “In addition, this study showed no evidence that school restrictions were associated with a lower level of the phone or the use of media or problematic social media.
