The head of the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF), David Lappartient, ended a second term in the office on Friday after his failed offer for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee.
Zimbabwes Kirsty Coventry was the first woman and the first African to be elected IOC president on Thursday, after receiving 97 votes in the first round in Greece, with a trifle, one of seven candidates and only reached four.
In a letter to the French sports associations and the CNOSF, Lappartant, the President of the International Cycling Union (UCI) since 2017, announced that he would not be a candidate for the renewal of his mandate in June.
“I would like to respect the obligation that I have obliged to commit to a two-year term, taking into account my other mandates,” said Lappartant, who also heads the Brittany Morbihan District in West France.
“While the accumulation of these obligations in these two years was possible at the expense of a very significant personal investment, I do not think that this is desirable apart from the extraordinary circumstances of the past two years in order not to concentrate the President of the CNOSF on his service anymore,” said LappAutient.
The 51-year-old took over the management of the CNOSF in the middle of the fights between different groups one year before the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The legislator praised in the middle-right manufacturer was praised to use his political nous and his persuasion to secure the 2030 Winter Olympics for the French Alps.
