Due to a damaged space vehicle, NASA has derived a planned freight mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
The spaceship is a robot cygnus freighter, which was built by the Northrop Grumman based in Virginia. It was planned to start several tons of food, fuel and other supplies to the ISS of Floridas Space Coast in June.
On March 5, however, NASA announced that Cygnus shipping tank suffered damage during the trip to the starting point. The agency had announced that mission teams would inspect the freighter in the coming days to determine whether Cygnus himself was still intact. This work has now been completed – and there is some bad news.
“After the first evaluation, there is also damage to the freight module,” said NASA officials on Wednesday afternoon (March 26) in a statement given by e -mail.
As a result, the June flight was canceled. But the freighter may not be grounded forever.
“The International Space Station program will continue to work with Northrop Grumman to assess whether the Cygnus freight module can fly safely to the space station in a future flight,” added NASA officers.
The news probably does not have the astronauts on board the surrounding laboratory in any way. NASA had already announced that more foods and other consumables would rise on the next freight flight from SpaceX, which is planned for the next month if Cygnus could not fly in time.

The canceled Cygnus mission was known as NG-22 because it was the 22nd Mission of the Contract, which Northrop Grumman flew to the ISS for NAS. According to the NASA declaration, the company will not be launched NS-22 earlier this autumn. (The NG-21 Cygnus is currently pulled on the ISS, but is supposed to leave tomorrow morning, March 28th.)
SpaceX has 32 freight flights under his belt and also flies visited missions to NASA to the ISS.
SpaceX ‘Dragon Cargo (and Crew) capsules are designed in such a way that they survive the fiery return journey home from orbit, but Cygnus is unnecessary. It burns at the end of its orbital mission in the earth’s atmosphere.
