The English head coach Thomas Tuchel said that he wanted “more effect” from his broad players and said that Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford were not as “decisive” as they could have been in his first game against Albania.
Tuchel explained that he wanted to “dribble” and “aggressive runs”, and said that elements of Foden and Rashford’s performances were missing in the 2-0 victory against Albania in Wembley.
Overall, Tuchel said that England can “do better” in future games and “better” after goals from Myles Lewis-Skelly and Harry Kane England made a profit in their qualification campaign of the World Cup.
But the German criticized the nights of Foden and Rashford, with Anthony Gordon and Jarrod Bowen being replaced by the bank in the middle of the second half.
When Tuchel was asked about Foden and Rashford, Tuchel said to ITV: “We hoped for further effects in these positions; we tried Anthony and Jarrod.
“I hoped for more effects, more dribble, fewer passes, more dribble and more aggressive runs towards the box. I think that was generally missing.
“I think [Bellingham] Had some good runs in the first half. Myles achieved it. Kyle [Walker] Had one.
“A little was missing [ from the wide players]. They weren’t as decisive as they can. “
Tuchel only had four days to work with his new players, but said “too slowly” in the second half. The night was not comfortable for Tuchel until Kane doubled her lead in 77 minutes.
“We can do it better, we have to do it better,” he added. “We started well, we had seven to eight minutes with 100 percent possession with many passes and high energy.
“But the opponent is difficult to collapse when they defend themselves in a deep block. In the euro they managed not to give any chances. In the second half, I had the feeling that we were too slow and generally not enough of the ball to stand behind the line.”
