The scholarship is awarded annually to a well -deserved candidate from the tea Valley who pursues a degree in materials, science or technically.

Ms. Watson, who studies electronic and electrical technology, was applied for as part of a scheme for industrial cadets in Engineering Development Trust in the MPI, a Center for Research and Innovation, after completing it in industry for a year.

This made it possible for her to work in several research areas and contributed to studies that developed sustainable solutions for nuclear waste at a low level and a project to implement artificial intelligence (AI) for data acquisition.

As a recipient, Ms. Watson receives an annual £ 1,500 scholarship, a paid summer placement at MPI, mentoring support and an invitation to participate in the annual symposium.

Ms. Watson, former student at the Prior -Slove College of Guisborough, said: “I am incredibly grateful for this occasion to support my academic work and shape my future career.

“My previous experience in the institute has already helped me develop key skills and to strengthen my passion for data science and material research.”

Dr. Richard Birley, group leader of the MPI material development, added: “In the course of the year, Molly showed a remarkable growth as a researcher.

“Your contributions were invaluable and helped to improve processes and procedures within the research teams.

“Molly should be incredibly proud of her achievements and we are pleased that she will be awarded the Millman scholarship.”

During her studies, she showed a strong passion for science and innovation foundation and management of a STEM club and took part in a one-year project to build a networked vertical spring mometer.

She was also part of a team that was third in the International Moonshot Pirates Global Sustainability Challenge.

Ms. Watson also received the “most committed” student award at the Quantum Summer School from Bristol University.

The scholarship was recognized by Dr. Stuart Millman, an internationally known industrial orbit, founded that retired from the MPI in 2018 and had spent a 40-year career in industrial research.
