“We agree” – National League answers to Julie -Ane Ugglas letter for 3Up

The Vanarama National League answered the recent open letter from York City Julie-Anne Uggla about the proposed 3-up campaign.

Julie-Anne published an open letter that was aimed at both the National League and the EFL managing director Trevor Birch and finally approved the campaign.

The 3 -up campaign would bring the National League an additional automatic action place, which means that Sky Bet League two would have an additional location.

Julie-anes letter came after York’s tragic end of the season, where they were expelled from the play-off semi-final by Oldham Athletic after they had accumulated 96 points in the regular campaign.

The National League has now reacted and shows its full support for the 3up campaign.

In a statement on its website, the National League revealed that 93 percent of the 1,980 fans who are said to have voted in principle agreed with the 3up.

87 percent of these people also agreed that this should be set up at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, while 86 percent of the fans of the Premier League and the Football League also agreed that 3up should be used.

Jack Pearce MBE, Chairman of the National League, commented on the National League website: “Of course we confirm York’s position this season and the latest explanation. We agree to the mood of other advertising spaces and continue to use the EFL to get a third place as soon as possible.

“3up would mean a flowing football pyramid, in which teams can win the campaign from bottom to top.

“There will be more options for clubs that have relegated from EFL League 2 to tear back.

“We advised ourselves in step 3 with the leagues among us who also support this change – since their clubs could benefit from this change in the long term.

“In a year in which the government of football in parliament is discussed, we believe that 3up has the agenda of all, otherwise the needs of the National League will be overlooked.

“At the same time, we believe that this change should now be made and should not be dependent on major problems.

“We hope that a solution will continue to occur as soon as possible and with the help of clubs and fans until this happens.”
