The X -account of Commons, Lucy Powell, was chopped by a crypto fraud.

Ms. Powells page repeated on Tuesday morning a “House of Commons Crypto Coin” post.

The profile, which is checked by the social media platform and mentioned its cabinet position, published several times about a digital currency that “puts people’s power into blockchain” with the slogan “Transparency, participation, trust”.

The House of Commons Insignia showed a picture, including the Portcullis logo. The contributions were deleted shortly after the publication.

In January 2025, the BBC policy presenter Laura Kuensberg had her X -account chopped to promote a BBC crypto coin.

Luke Nolan, a senior research associate at Coinshares, who specializes in digital assets, said it was an example of “pump and dump”.

Blown out its value

This is the time when people who have created the crypto coin inflate their value, get others to invest their majority share for profit and then sell their majority share, but to leave the coin worthless.

Mr. Nolan said that there were only 34 transactions on the coin, which would have led to a win of around 225 pounds.

He said: “It seems that the tweet was deleted pretty quickly, which meant that the assignment did not really have the chance to extract so much of people who could have invested in the coin.

“The way this work creates coins. The excursions then buy a large part of the offer before you publish it and wait for other unsuspecting users to buy and then quickly let the tokens out for a quick win. These can be massively profitable.”

A spokesman for MS Powell from Labor said: “Lucy Powell’s personal X account was hacked this morning.

“Steps were quickly taken to secure the account and remove misleading contributions.”

A spokesman for the Commons House of Commons confirmed that there was no House of Commons Crypto Coin.

He said: “The British Parliament takes cyber security very seriously. We give users, including members, advice to draw attention to the risks and management of their digital security.”
